Parable of the Sower (Matthew 13:1-9, 18-23)

The farmer in the parable is seen sowing seeds in all directions, not paying too much attention where all that “good seed” goes.
Even though we have been given the Good News (good seed) and been commissioned to ‘”go into all the world…make disciples…baptize…and teach them to obey everything that Jesus has commanded…” (Matthew 28:19-20) we sometimes worry so much about where this precious seed will fall that we don’t send any out at all. The parable reminds us that it’s God’s job to make the seeds work wherever they land. It’s just up to us to cast the seeds wherever we can.
Principles of Communication – it takes more than a loud speaker to get your message across to those you want to get it. It takes more than a good message that people really want to hear. They have to work together–
1) The sender ( the speaker or preacher. in the parable it is the sower)
2) The message (the content. in the parable it’s the seed)
3) The receiver (in the parable it’s the soil- hard path, stony ground, weeds, or good soil)
